Account Set-up Charge
When a new account is opened an Occupancy Charge is added to your first bill. This charge is approved by our regulator, the Ontario Energy Board and covers the cost of opening a new account and updating records.

Security Deposits Tenants are required to provide a security deposit or to provide evidence of a good payment history.

Deposits are held as security to guarantee payment of future charges. The deposit may be waived if you are able to demonstrate a good payment history:

  1. Provide a reference letter from another Canadian electric or gas utility indicating one year of good payment history within the last two years.
  2. Provide a credit report from a credit reporting agency demonstrating a good credit history.
  3. A good payment history consists of; not more than one Disconnect Notice; not more than on cheque returned due to non-sufficient funds (NSF); and no disconnections.

The security deposit calculation is based on Ontario Energy Board guidelines to ensure that customers receive consistent and equitable treatment.

Contract Terms

When you open an account with Lakefront Utility, you enter into a contract with Lakefront Utility. Lakefront Utility is regulated by the Ontario Energy Board. The terms of Lakefront Utilities contract with the customer are found in several documents issued by or filed with the Ontario Energy Board.

The Ontario Energy Board requires that Lakefront Utility summarize the terms of its contract with you in a document called the Conditions of Service, which may be amended from time to time. When you open an account with Lakefront Utility, you agree to comply with its Conditions of Service. This includes paying all charges authorized by the Ontario Energy Board from the date on which service is connected and until you notify Lakefront Utility to terminate the service.
