Gil holds an Industrial Engineering Technician Certification, ISO 9001 Certified Trainer and Auditor. He held many titles during his career, namely Industrial Engineering Analyst, Maintenance Manager, Quality Systems Manager, and Manufacturing Manager.

Gil served 8 years as Mayor of Cobourg, 8 years as County Councillor and 2 years as Northumberland County Warden. He is a Past Board member of the Cobourg Public Library and the Art Gallery of Northumberland.  Gil is the current Chair of Northumberland County Housing Corporation and Vice President of the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame.
